The one thing that I hate the most about making a living online is the constant need to find quality backlinks to my sites. I enjoy blogging, adding posts, doing research – I hate having to make my own backlinks – and so does Google! Google likes linkbuilding to be natural (ie backlinks from other people, not yourself!).

I’ve just joined a fairly new (August) link building course and I’m learning so much about how to do this essential (but boring) task well. Shane Melaugh wrote the course and he seems to be a no BS sort of guy – I like his style a lot (and there’s very few online marketers who I can say that about!).

It’s called “Backlink Battleplan”?

Backlink Battleplan is the newest product created by Shane Melaugh. It’s all about link-building, but with a very unique twist.

As you probably know, if you want to get a site of yours ranked in the number 1 spot in Google for a high-traffic keyword (meaning that a lot of people search for it and you’ll get lots of free traffic by being #1), it means that you need to beat some tough competition. The way to do this is to have reasonably good on-page optimization and then build backlinks. Tons of backlinks, for really valuable keywords.

As a rule of thumb, you need more and better backlinks than your competitors have. That’s what gets your site to outrank theirs.

And if you want lots of traffic, you’ll often have to build backlinks by the thousands. I know, sounds like hard work!

Obviously, there’s no way you can do all that by hand, which is why most SEO’ers use different kinds of link-building tools that automate and speed up the process for them. And if you want to compete with these guys, you need similar tools.

Problem is, these tools are usually very expensive. Some of them will only cost you a one-off fee of maybe $100 or so, but most of them (most of the ones that are actually effective, anyway), will cost you anything between $70 and $170 each and every month! Also, remember that Google doesn’t like these tools either and you’re paying for them!

After having bought the Instant Member Membership Management Software, I then let it sit on my hard drive for 2 years. You’ll find this hard to believe, but I actually forgot about it!

Yesterday, having had a good clean out of my system,  I came across the software and downloaded the latest upgrade. Seems like a lot of features have been added since 2008!

Now, I’m all set to get a membership site up and running and I think it will be in a non-IM niche. I am a musician as well as a marketer, so this might be an area I look at.

This has been extremely time consuming but I’ve managed to make about 13 sales (Halloween costumes) already and the frenzied, buying spree hasn’t even begun yet. I’m very pleased with results so far and now need to keep the momentum up by creating backlinks and adding more content.
